Learn to Zouk with Junyan & Danielle! Zouk is becoming very popular in Toronto and worldwide, now being played at all Latin Clubs, it's a must to learn!
What is Zouk? Brazilian Zouk or Zouk-Lambada is the fortunate marriage between Brazilian Lambada, and the beautiful music from Guadalupe and Martinique. In the past decade Zouk-Lambada has gained incredible popularity around the world (broadly Australia, South America, Europe and South East Asia). Zouk-Lambada is a partner dance characterized by flowing motion and upper body isolations, giving rise to the woman’s dramatic “hair movements”. There are many different styles of Zouk and ways of dancing -- it is truly an international dance and has come a long way from its conception. The dance has begun to take hold in North America and we are very proud to help pioneer Zouk in Toronto. It is a dance beautiful to watch, and extremely fun to dance.
Junyan & Danielle
Originally from varied dance backgrounds including salsa, tango, ballroom and blues, Junyan and Danielle came together through the deep partner connection and smooth, flowing movements found in Brazilian zouk. Their common desire to share their love of musical expression through dance led them to start Mazouka Dance Company, the first and largest Zouk school in Canada. Since then they have been teaching, choreographing and performing zouk locally and abroad. Together they run the weekly zouk venue “Zouk Me Tuesdays" and have been a driving force in the development of Toronto’s fast-growing zouk scene, paving the way on zouk training programs, zouk performance groups and even roda de zouk (zouk rueda) in Toronto."
